Justine: Celebrate Your Accomplishments

crossing finish lineIt’s the beginning-ish of October, and the start of a new month is a great time to share accomplishments. I, for one, am celebrating a goal I have never yet achieved in the six years I’ve been writing my book:

I sent my novel to my editor.

To be honest, I don’t think my husband ever thought I’d get there (there were days I was doubtful, too). But I had a flash of inspiration in September (read: I finally figured out how to end the book), and with some determination and focus, I got there. The feeling was euphoric. My mom happened to call a few minutes after I’d hit SEND on that email to my editor, and when I told mom, I started crying. It was an incredibly satisfying moment that had been a long time coming.

What victories are you celebrating, big or small? Did you finish a chapter? Figure out a plot twist? Type “the end” on your manuscript? Publish your first book? Get a contract? Let us know in the comments!

    • Congrats on the new routine!

For me, a new routine is what clinched getting the book done. I have been going back and forth from AZ (where I live) to MD, where my parents live, getting them ready to sell their house and move into independent living. The 3 hour time difference meant that when I got back to AZ, I was naturally waking early. I decided to take advantage of this and keep the early rising, getting myself ready for the day before I got the kids ready for school. Then, as soon as they were out the door, I was at my desk with all distractions/notifications turned off. I’ve never had that sort of diligence, but it really paid off and I plan to keep at it (after we move my parents…starting tomorrow).

  1. Justine, congratulations on getting your book to the editor! That is a huge accomplishment. I’m brewing a cup of coffee right now to toast your success. And it’s especially awesome because you have a lot on your plate these days, with parents who need help. That emotional toll, plus the time zone changes, can be killer. Good on you for making it work to your advantage.

  2. Congratulations, Justine! This is a huge achievement. I hope you take a well earned breather and award yourself something nice to celebrate. I shall raise a glass and toast you later 😉

Hope your parents’ move goes well, and that your excellent new routine will see you through edits and on to publication (drumroll)!!
