I meant to do my work today—
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand—
So what could I do but laugh and go? Richard Le Gallienne

I usually write my blog posts on Sunday afternoon, but this Sunday, after a week of rain and cold, the weather turned beautiful. So, instead of hunkering down at my desk, I bopped up to the garden center around the corner and bought geraniums and begonias to fill my front porch planters. And then I spent a happy afternoon playing in the dirt.
We’ll categorize this post as “Work Life Balance.”
That sounds like time well spent to me. I also took advantage of a nice weekend to head to the garden store and then dig in the dirt in the yard. Unfortunately, some of my efforts were thwarted (conflict!) by big old tree roots. I prevailed however, mostly, and now the plants are settling in and I’m awaiting colorfulblooms forthwith.
I saw pix over on FB–it looks beautiful. And I love your fence!
What a gorgeous geranium you’ve found! And everything looks so fresh and green and on the verge of summer there (-:. Lovely spot of paradise!
I love the view from my front porch. It you look out in the other direction, there’s a little field with horses. As far as summer–next week is supposed to drop back into the 60’s, but that’s okay. I love a nice, slow spring.
I think we should categorize this post as “sparking joy.” I love your hanging baskets!
A beautiful garden sparks joy in me, too–as long as I’m not the one doing the gardening 😉 The sun’s shining here, too, and my (ahem) rather wild urban garden seems to be full of caterpillars. Which means it’s also full of birds that like to eat them. I’m hoping that the birds miss a few, so I’ll get some pretty butterflies later!
If you get butterflies, you must take pictures and post them!
Your porch and boxes and hanging baskets look terrific! What a good way to spend a day. Elizabeth, I’ll have to check out your post on your gardening, too. I pulled weeds for five minutes; does that count? 🙂
Thanks!
