Elizabeth: Friday Story Time and Sprints

Are you in the holiday mood yet?  I can hardly help it myself, having been watching the Hallmark Channel holiday movie marathon for weeks now.  I figure it’s better for my piece of mind than watching the nightly news.

My house is definitely getting in the holiday spirit, though not very quickly. There is a holiday tree in the corner, but it’s still awaiting lights and ornaments.  Guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend.

Maybe.

Right now I’m just focusing on making it through one final day of work before calling this week done.  I was off at a conference for a few days, so that made the week fly by.  As a bonus, the conference was near a favorite New Orleans style restaurant, so my week included Jambalaya and Beignets – a definite win.

Now that the leftovers are gone, it’s time to turn my mind back to writing, which has been on the back burner lately.  I have some revisions to do, but first I think I’ll flex my creativity a little by giving today’s story prompt a try.

Care to join me?

For those of you working away on a story (whether a first draft or a polished version on its way to publication), we’d love to hear a bit – whether it’s a scene, a paragraph, or even a phrase that you are especially pleased with and would like to share.

If you don’t have a story in progress, or just want to work on something new, maybe today’s writing prompt will catch your creative fancy.  Thanks to all who have been playing along – keep those stories coming.

Ready?

Here we go:

“A stranger walked into a bar . . . ”

Feel free to include any (or all) of the following random words:

fog                      gargoyle            academic            naked

gold                    blindly                carnival               brilliant

bait                     abduction         perfection           hitchhiker

billionaire         crazy                   loner                     princess

Whether you’re sharing a bit of your current work or writing something fresh based on the writing prompt, we hope you’ll join us for today’s Story Time.

Happy writing to all!

  1. I am in the holiday spirit! I’m especially into shopping, unfortunately for myself. Two sweaters richer! I’ll be warm in Wisconsin when I go.

Unfortunately again, the holiday crush means I did not do Friday sprints today. I miss it! These prompts look good, especially the naked gargoyle.

    • Ha! I had totally forgotten all about Craig. He is rather a darling, if I do say so myself. Thanks for the shout-out, Jilly! Maybe I can use these prompts one day to expand on his universe one day.
