Elizabeth: Friday Writing Sprints – The Adorable Edition

The year is rapidly coming to a close and I’ve been busy finishing up all the little odds and ends that need to be taken care of before the calendar flips over to January.  Just when I think I’m done I think of one more thing to do.

Obviously the answer is to do less thinking, right?

Whatever you’ve been doing, I hope you’ve all had a good week.  Part of mine was spent with the adorable four-legged family addition above – she’s guaranteed to make any day better (well, for everyone except the cat; the jury is still out there).

Now that Santa has come and gone, the local radio station has stopped their 24/7 holiday playlist, and the dozens of cookies I made have almost disappeared (I can’t imaging who might have eaten them), it’s time for me to spend a little quality time with my latest story.  To ease into writing I think I’ll get things started with a little Random Word Improv.

Care to join me?

Whether you’re enjoying some family time, binge-watching old movies, making plans for the new year, or working on your current manuscript, a few minutes of Random Word Improv are a great way to have a little fun and get some words on the page.  It’s a little chilly here so I’ll be doing my writing wrapped in a cozy blanket with a hot cup of tea.  Feel free to get comfortable and join me.

For any of you new to Random Word Improv, here’s how we play:

  1. Pick as many words from the list as you want
  2. Write the first line(s) of a story (or a whole mini-story) incorporating your words
  3. Post your results in the comments section.

All right, let’s get started. Here are today’s randomly selected random words – can’t wait to see what stories you find hidden in the list.

swarm                  ambulance          armor                 attack

phonograph       flood                     getaway              disaster

coincidence        forbidden           alcohol                tornado

felony                    glossy                   dial                      fabric

Are you ready?  Go!

*whistling aimlessly while you are off being creative*

Back already?  Can’t wait to read what you’ve come up with.

Happy writing to all.

  1. LOL, here we are at Epiphany, and I’m still taking care of odds and ends from 2017 — oh well, I’ve got a couple more weeks until Chinese New Year — maybe I’ll fresh-start things then.

What an adorable puppy! Here in Japan, it’s the year of the dog, too! So . . . might be a good year for doggy tales (-:. Do you ever write werewolves? It’s not usually my thing, but I have a story rattling around in my head — there’s a werewolf villain, a maiden warrior, a frost god, and the Frost Fair on the Thames — all I have to do is find the connecting threads! Anyway, enjoy puppyhood! What’s her name?
