Today’s writing sprints are coming to you directly from the sun-drenched splendor of the RWA Conference in Orlando.
This year’s conference contains a number of new elements, including “Sprint Café” sessions. During these hour-long periods, the workshop leaders and attendees all “put their butts in their chairs, set the clock, and write as much as they can in one hour.”
What’s not to like about that?
The first session was on Wednesday and there is another session today (Friday) – perfect timing for our own Random Word Improv writing. There is nothing like being in a room with other individuals writing away to provide the motivation to get some words on the page.
I’ll be doing my best to make it to today’s session though, according to my workshop schedule that may involve me being in two places at one time. Care to join me?
Whether you’re working on your manuscript, knee-deep in conference sessions, enjoying the dog-days of summer, or just trying to make it to the end of another work-week, a few minutes of Random Word Improv are a great way to have a little fun and get some words on the page. So pull up a chair, set the timer, and let’s get writing. Today’s session is scheduled for 6:00 pm EST, but fell free to choose whatever time works for you.
Today’s random words are random synonyms, but the theme is up to you. There will be bonus points for including a palm tree though.

For any of you new to Random Word Improv, here’s how we play:
- Pick as many words from the list as you want
- Write the first line(s) of a story incorporating your words
- Post your results in the comments section.
Okay. Are you ready? Let’s sprint!
*whistling aimlessly while you are off being creative*
Ah, you’re back. Kind of fun, right? Can’t wait to see what you have come up with.
