I was so busy NaNo-ing away today that I almost forgot I had a post to write. I’d like to say that the words were flowing like water, but that would be stretching the bounds of truth far beyond the breaking point. It would be more accurate to say I’ve written myself into a corner and have spent most of this evening trying to put a door into it, or at least a window big enough to crawl out of.
Fortified with a large mug of coffee and a king-sized candy bar, I have high hopes of success. I’m determined to meet my word count for the day, preferably without having to kill of any characters or blow anything up. After all, two explosions in a story are fine, but three just seem like overkill.
Anyway, since inspiration is taking its own sweet time to strike, I think I’ll take a break for a few minutes and see what I can jar loose with a little Random Word Improv.
Care to join me?
Whether you’re staring at a blank page, ratcheting up the tension in your story, or taking a well-deserved break to relax and recharge, a few minutes of Random Word Improv are a great way to have a little fun and get some words on the page. I’ll try to save the coffee and candy until after I deal with today’s random words, but I’m not making any promises.
For any of you new to Random Word Improv, here’s how we play:
- Pick as many words from the list as you want
- Write the first line(s) of a story (or a whole mini-story) incorporating your words
- Post your results in the comments section.
All right, let’s get started. Here are today’s randomly selected random words – can’t wait to see what stories you find hidden in the list.
awkward magic village heal
horseback chant happy connection
