The Ladies have taken Manhattan! Most of us are in New York attending the Romance Writers of America annual conference. The Marriott Marquis on Times Square has been taken over by 2,000 attendees, who will attend workshops, panels, pitch appointments, parties, receptions, and soirees, meeting old friends and talking story and the publishing industry. Last night was the annual “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing, where published authors sign and sell their books to attendees and the general public, with proceeds going to a local literacy group. The total award this year has not yet been announced, but in the last 25 years, the RWA has given almost $900,000 to local groups. The culmination of the conference is an awards ceremony on Saturday night to announce the finalists and winners of both the Golden Heart award (for unpublished manuscripts) and the Rita (for published books). As most readers of the blog know, our Jeanne Estridge is a finalist for the Golden Heart. We’ll all be there, rooting for her.
The big tech news for the conference this year is that the awards ceremony will be live streamed. If you couldn’t attend the conference, you can always join the party virtually. It’ll be big.
