Justine: Gratuitous Puppy Pics

My mind hasn’t been on writing lately (writing books or blog posts or even a shopping list). Today, I brought home our new family member, Chewie (short for Chewbacca — big Star Wars fans in this household). He’s an 8 week-old black miniature schnauzer and the cutest little thing!

I think some sharing would help me get my mind back on track. So, without further ado, meet Chewie!

On the ride home from the breeder. What an exhausting morning!

Loving the chew toys.

Loving the Nylabones, too.

He's the little black lump. He took to his house very well. Now if I could just get my kids to learn that that's his safe house.

His favorite place is under the kitchen table.

  1. Aw. Sooo cute, Justine. I can’t wait to meet him! My brother just got two adorable German Shepherd pups. I’ve been trying to upload a pic of them, but (damnit) I’ve failed the technology.

Writing thought: at RWA this year, an editor said to me – if you want to soften a tough character, give him a puppy πŸ™‚

    • I’ll have to remember that last little tidbit, Jilly. I think I remember Jenny saying the opposite once…if you want everyone to hate a character, have them kill a puppy.

  2. Very nice. I’ve got two toy schnauzers and a yorkie right now (#MommasGirls) and I lost my first mini schnauzer 2.5 years ago. I love them! But none of mine were ever that small when I got them. Enjoy!

    • Thanks, Penny! I had a Border Terrier before Chewie, but my husband has had two mini schanuzers and loved them. As Chewie comes out of his shell (he was pretty frightened yesterday), he’s quite a playful little guy. In fact, as I write this, he’s pulling at a toy that I’m moving around with my foot!

My mother-in-law has a Yorkie. He’s a cute little dog, too. I’m amazed at how much he eats given how small he is.

      • Amen. I joke that Tawny has TARDIS legs. She never seems full. If there was a buffet she would eat u til she blew up. I’m finding that it might be a yorkie thing.

I love schnauzers – even their stubbornness is awesome! πŸ˜€
